Islamic Council runs on a non-profit basis. Fees cover the work, not a margin — and where someone cannot pay, your giving is what makes the difference.

Every week the Council hears cases from people who cannot afford the fee. Some are women seeking khula' with no financial independence; others are families in crisis with nowhere else to turn. The hardship fund exists so that no one is turned away for being unable to pay, and it is funded entirely by donations.

The hardship fund
Covers fees, in full or in part, for those who genuinely cannot pay. In 2024 it gave over £47,000 to help clients through their cases.
Training scholars
Equipping adjudicators, imams and those in pastoral care to handle family matters properly.
Research & guidance
Publishing the guides, rulings and research that families and other councils rely on.

We do not accept zakat
Zakat has specific recipients set out by Allah in the Qur'an, and the Council's work does not fall within them — so giving it here would not fulfil the obligation. We keep to those limits and ask that you direct your zakat to those it is due to. Gifts to the Council are sadaqah.
