This policy explains how Islamic Council (“the Council”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and looks after your personal information when you visit this website or get in touch. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information in line with UK data protection law.
Confidentiality of your case
The matters people bring to the Council are deeply personal. What you share about your circumstances is treated as confidential and is seen only by the scholar or adviser assigned to your case and the staff supporting it. We do not discuss your case with family members, your spouse, or anyone else without your instruction, except where we are required to act by law or where there is a serious risk to someone’s safety.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you enquire by email or phone, you may give us your name, contact details and information about your situation. When you book a case, this is handled through our secure booking portal, where you create an account — that portal has its own privacy terms.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as your browser type and the pages you visit. This is used to keep the site running and secure.
How we use it
- To answer your enquiry and provide the service you asked for.
- To assess and hear your case, and to issue any documentation.
- To contact you about your case, including arranging appointments.
- To keep proper records of the Council’s decisions and rulings.
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for marketing. We share it only where necessary: with the scholars and staff handling your case; with the providers who run our website and booking portal; and where the law requires it.
Where a case involves another party — for example a spouse in a khula’ application — that party will necessarily be contacted and made aware of the application. We will explain what this means before your case proceeds.
Keeping your information
We keep case records for as long as necessary to provide the service and to meet our legal obligations, and then delete or anonymise them. Certification and rulings are retained so that they can be verified later.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, to ask us to delete it, and to object to certain uses. To exercise any of these, contact us at info@islamiccouncil.com.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. If we introduce analytics or a mailing list in future, this policy will be updated first and, where required, we will ask for your consent.
Links to other sites
This site links to our booking portal, our learning platform, and to Islamic Finance Advisory. Those services have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not cover them.
